Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Futsal student athlete Nathalie Andersson (Uppsala, Sweden) has been named the Keyano Huskies Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 27, 2022.

Andersson scored seven goals across four games as the Women's Futsal Huskies earned a Silver medal at the 2022 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Futsal Championship.

"It came at the right time and we saw glimpses of it throughout the year, in outdoor as well, but there’s definitely some consistency that just wasn’t there and she found it," Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. "She found it in the last couple of weeks of training and it just came right into this weekend as well.

"You could see it coming and again it’s a huge confidence boost for her. She’s going to take that into the next season as well."

Andersson opened the tournament with a hat trick in a 7-3 win against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks Saturday morning. She added two more goals, including the game-winning goal, in a 4-3 win over the NAIT Ooks Saturday night. After being held off the scoresheet in the team's round-robin finale, Andersson struck for a pair of goals in the Gold Medal game against the SAIT Trojans.

For her efforts, she was also named to the Tournament All-Star team.

"I’m very grateful," Andersson said. "I wouldn’t be able to do that without having these amazing team players around me.

"The opportunities that I got and scoring those goals, it takes more than one player to win a game and score a goal. I’m really happy to be named all-star; it’s really cool."

The Silver medal marked a return to the podium for the Women's Futsal Huskies after their Silver medal in 2016. Accompanying three bronze medals, the Huskies have now earned five medals in Women's Futsal since its inception in the 2011-12 ACAC season.

Andersson is in her first year of eligibility with the Huskies and is studying Business Administration at Keyano College.
