Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Basketball student athlete Kiana Mintz (Medicine Hat, Alta.) and Men's Basketball student athlete Sean Michael-Clancey (Las Vegas, Nevada) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 27, 2022.

Both Huskies teams closed out their respective regular seasons Friday in Edmonton, Alta. against the Concordia Thunder.

The Women's Basketball Huskies took a 68-62 loss to finish 12-4 on the season. The Men's Basketball Huskies won their regular season finale 94-73 to complete the first perfect regular season in team history.

In the loss, Mintz still had a strong performance by tallying 21 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 30 minutes of action. She went seven-for-12 from the field and made good on seven of nine attempts from the foul line.

"She got into early foul trouble, but the great thing about Kiana is she just finds different ways to score and different ways to contribute to our team," Head Coach Dwayne Vigilance said. "Today was another example where she was struggling a little bit from the outside, but she found a way to keep us in the game.

"That's a great benefit of having a player like that."

One of the driving forces behind a second half that saw the Women's Basketball Huskies go 9-1, Mintz finished the 2021-22 season averaging 19.1 points per game, along with 6.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.4 steals.

She concluded the season in second place among all Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Basketball athletes in points per game. She also finished the season ranked ninth in three-point percentage with a 32.8 mark and 10th in free throw percentage a 75 per cent mark.

On the Huskies, she was second in overall points with 172, was tied for second in steals with 31, and ranked third in total assists with 32.

For Michael-Clancey, he earned his fourth Huskies Athlete of the Week Award in a strong fashion Friday night.

Scoring 26 points and adding six rebounds, and one assist, Michael-Clancey marked a 16-game streak this season of reaching double-digit points in a single regular season game. He also marked eight-straight games of scoring 20 points or more in a single game.

Michael-Clancey went 10-for-18 from the field in the game, making a trio of three-point shots and adding three free throws on four attempts.

"He did a good job getting to his spots and got to the rim," Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga said. "He created for others tonight and I thought he did a really good job on the glass. He had a really good all-around effort.

"I was happy to see it."

The Business student in his fourth-year of eligibility finished the season winning his second-straight ACAC Scoring Championship as the top scorer out of both divisions. His 389 points topped the field this year while his 586 points led the way in the 2019-20 season. His final stat line had him averaging 24.3 points per game along with 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.8 steals.

Additionally, Michael-Clancey led the ACAC with 144 made field goals and 45 steals, ranked second in points per game, and was ninth in free throw percentage, sinking 81.0 per cent of his shots from the foul line.

He ranked seventh in total rebounds with 128, ranking seventh in defensive rebounds with 97. On a per-game basis his 8.0 rebound per game ranked ninth overall while he was tied for eighth in defensive rebounds per game at 6.1. He also led the ACAC in steals per game at 2.8.

Both Huskies basketball teams have secured byes through the first round of the 2022 ACAC Playoffs.
