Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Basketball student athlete Kiana Mintz (Medicine Hat, Alta.) and Men's Basketball student athlete Sean Michael-Clancey (Las Vegas, Nevada) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 23, 2022.

Mintz and Michael-Clancey each played top offensive roles in home weekend sweeps of the visiting University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre.

On the Women's side, Mintz tallied 41 points, 20 rebounds, nine assists, and four steals for the Huskies across 58 minutes of action in the two wins.

"It was a great weekend for her," said Head Coach Dwayne Vigilance. "It just shows how explosive she is."

In Friday's 73-42 win over the Vikings, Mintz played 25 minutes, registering 19 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists. She led all players on the court in the second quarter, scoring nine of Keyano's 20 points to bust the game wide open en route to their victory. She was named the player of the game for her efforts Friday.

Saturday, she poured in a team-leading 22 points in a 68-50 win against the Vikings. She also added six rebounds, six assists, and four steals during the contest. Mintz struck in the second quarter for a second-straight day, tallying 12 points in nine minutes of work throughout the quarter.

The Open Studies student in her fourth year of eligibility has joined the Huskies after previously appearing with the Olds College Broncos, Red Deer Queens, and Medicine Hat College Rattlers during her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference career.

Across 66 minutes of play in the two wins, Michael-Clancey scored 32 points, adding 19 rebounds, 12 steals, and 10 assists, helping move the Huskies to a perfect 8-0 on the season.

"Sean is playing inspired basketball and it is showing on both ends of the floor," said Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga. "His ability to create for others, rebounding, defence and the leadership he is providing in the locker room he is proving he is a complete all-around player that can do it all."

In Friday's 94-72 victory, Michael-Clancey scored a team-high 18 points while adding seven assists, six rebounds, and four steals. Scoring 11 of the Huskies' 24 points in the third quarter, Michael-Clancey helped the Huskies take charge at a critical point in the game.

With Saturday's contest proving to be closer in a 60-54 win for the home side, Michael-Clancey collected 14 points and 13 rebounds for his third double double of the regular season. He also added a season-high eight steals and also picked up three assists.

The Business student in his fourth-year of eligibility is averaging 19.3 points-per-game, as well as 8.3 rebounds, four steals, and 3.6 assists per game too. Michael-Clancey was recognized as a member of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference's (ACAC) All-Conference team during the 2019-20 academic year.

The Huskies are back in action this weekend at home when they host the NAIT Ooks for a pair of games. The teams will meet on Saturday, January 29th with the Women's game at 6:00 p.m. and the Men's game at 8:00 p.m. They'll face each other in rematches on Sunday, January 30 with the Women tipping off at 1:00 p.m. and the Men following at 3:00 p.m.
