Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that women's soccer student athlete Isabela Bustos-Chaba (Edmonton, Alta.) and men's soccer student athlete Ayman Hassen (Markham, Ont.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 17, 2021.

Bustos-Chaba, a center-back in her fourth year of eligibility with the Huskies, was a driving force in the team's stellar defence and breakout attack. Friday, Bustos-Chaba played a solid role in liming offensive chances for the King's Eagles as the Huskies claimed a 3-0 win in their first-ever Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) playoff game.

"Isabela did really great," said head coach Niels Slotboom. "On Friday she did really well. Sunday again against Concordia, really solid at the back. [She] sacrificed herself a lot in this game and that's in the end all that you can ask.

"She was a big part of the team this year and it showed again in the tough moments in playoffs."

The women's soccer Huskies fell 2-0 in Sunday's ACAC North Division semifinal against the Concordia Thunder, ending their season.

For her Huskies career, the Nursing student and leadership group member has appeared in 36 ACAC regular season games and a pair of ACAC playoff games, serving as a defensive stalwart for the team.

Hassen, a striker in his fifth-year of eligibility, scored for the Huskies in a 4-1 loss to the King's Eagles in the opening round of the ACAC Men's Soccer Playoffs. Hassen was named the Player of the Game in Saturday's contest, his final game with the Huskies.

"Obviously we had a difficult weekend, but I think Ayman showed some leadership and obviously pushed through for a goal and never dropped his head," said Slotboom. "For someone that's been here for a long time, it's not always a given that they show that, even after five years.

"Of course, he wanted more for his last soccer game at the college but I think overall he did really well this season and overall I'm very happy with his performance."

A key member of the leadership group, Hassen also helped to create other offensive opportunities for the Huskies in the contest.

The Business student played a key role for the Huskies in 2016 and 2017, as they won their second and third-consecutive ACAC Men's Soccer Championships. He was also a part of the squad that captured silver at the 2016 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association's National Men's Soccer Championship.
