Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Futsal student athlete Madison Tyson (Olds, Alta.) and Men's Basketball student athlete Sean Michael-Clancey (Las Vegas, Nevada) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 6, 2022.

Tyson recorded a shutout and played a solid defensive game out of the net for the Huskies as they went 2-0 on their first weekend of play for the 2022 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Futsal season.

In Saturday's opening game against the Lakeland Rustlers, Tyson held firm with a clean sheet in a 3-0 win for the Huskies. Her performance earned her Player of the Game honours.

"Madi stepped up as a goalie and a player in both games," Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. "As a coach, it's pretty much all that you can ask for from a player, is to do whatever is necessary for a team.

"That's something she definitely did this weekend."

In the second match of the day, Tyson played a key defensive role as the Huskies topped the Portage College Voyageurs by a 7-1 score.

This is the second time Nursing student in her first year of eligibility has earned a Huskies' Athlete of the Week Award. She earned this season's inaugural honour on the soccer pitch with the Women's Soccer Huskies in September 2021.

The Women's Futsal Huskies now lead the North East Division in ACAC Women's Futsal action. They'll return to the court on February 19 at the Bold Center in Lac La Biche, Alta.

They'll take on the Voyageurs at 11:15 a.m. with a rematch against the Rustlers at 2:15 p.m.

Michael-Clancey had a top performance in Sunday's 122-79 for the Men's Basketball Huskies against the Concordia Thunder. Recording his fifth double-double of the season, he dropped a season-high 38 points and 11 rebounds.

He went 14-for-23 from the field, sinking eight three-point shots in the contest. He also added a steal in the win. His most productive quarter was the second, where he posted 15 points in eight minutes of work.

"It's pretty impressive," Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga said of Michael-Clancey. "He hit some really tough shots, but he's capable of hitting tough shots and it was fun to watch."

The Business student in his fourth-year of eligibility is averaging 21.9 points-per-game, as well as 7.4 rebounds, 3.4 steals, and 2.7 assists per game.

The Huskies return to action this weekend with a pair of games. Friday, they're on the road in Camrose, Alta., facing the Augustana Vikings at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, they'll return home for a date against The King's University Eagles at 3:00 p.m. at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre.
