Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Volleyball student athlete Tyneille Neufeld (Winnipeg, Man.) and Men's Volleyball student athlete Athus Silva (Campinas, Brazil) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 16, 2022.

Neufeld played a key offensive role as the Keyano Huskies Women's Volleyball team earned a weekend sweep against the visiting Concordia University Thunder. Across nine sets in the pair of matches, Neufeld compiled 30 kills, 46 digs, three blocks, and an ace while maintaining a 0.455 hitting percentage.

"The numbers that she put up with her hitting stats, her passing stats, and her defensive stats, some of those are the ones that you don't really notice as much," said Head Coach Kira Sutcliffe. "She had a great offensive game both days.

"She really impressed me. Her leadership took over and was the reason why we had a successful weekend."

Friday, Neufeld had 16 kills, 22 digs, two blocks, and one ace in a five-set victory over the Thunder. Saturday, she had 14 kills, 24 digs, and one block as the Huskies claimed the win in four sets.

The Education student in her fourth year of eligibility currently leads the ACAC in kills with 104 through eight matches. She also ranks second in the conference with 112 digs. She's also tied for the team lead with 12 blocks.

Silva played a key role on both sides of the ball during the Men's Volleyball Huskies sweep of the visiting Thunder. Across two wins, Silva compiled 12 kills, 10 blocks, three aces, and an assist.

"I have been pushing and challenging Athus this whole year and finally he started playing the way I knew he could," said Head Coach Keegan Kuhr. "He had an amazing practice on Thursday and that carried over to the weekend.

"Athus is a very important part to our team and when he brings energy our whole team feeds off him."

Through eight matches this season, Silva has 50 kills, 32 blocks, and 10 service aces. Silva ranks second in the entire ACAC with 32 blocks while the Huskies rank second as a team in the entire conference for the stat.

The Open Studies student is in his second year of eligibility. Through 28 ACAC Regular Season matches, Silva has recorded 149 kills, 108 blocks, 24 aces, 43 digs, and five assists.

Up next for the Men's and Women's Volleyball Huskies is six-straight road games, beginning with a trio of road dates this weekend. They'll face the University of Alberta at Augustana Vikings on Friday, January 21 and Saturday, January 22 before taking on the Thunder in a rematch Sunday, January 23.
