Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Basketball student athlete Moiyan Toure (Edmonton, Alta.) and Men's Volleyball student athlete Chance Wilkins (Airdrie, Alta.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, February 13, 2022.

Toure and Wilkins each played leading roles in weekend sweep for their respective sides, winning games at home and on the road.

On the basketball court, Toure compiled 39 points, 19 rebounds, eight steals, four assists, and one block as the Women's Basketball Huskies extended their winning streak to nine games.

"I thought Moiyan played very well," Head Coach Dwayne Vigilance said. "She's coming into her own moving into playoffs."

Friday in Camrose, Alta., Toure recorded 20 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in an 84-63 win for her side against the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings. The owner of the top field goal percentage in the entire Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC), Toure was one of four Huskies to reach double-digit points in the contest and raised her point-per-game average on the road to 16.8, strengthening the team's performance away from home.

Returning home Sunday, she continued to hold the hot hand with 19 points, 11 rebounds, seven steals, and two assists in a 66-52 win over The King's University Eagles. She came through with seven of her team's 18 points in the fourth quarter to drive the victory home.

Winners of nine-straight games, Toure and the Women's Basketball Huskies were recognized by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tuesday, ranking them 12th in the nation and as the third-highest ACAC team.

A Social Work student in her fifth year of eligibility, Toure has dazzled consistently for the Huskies since she first stepped into the lineup. Her 1,189 rebounds rank first all-time in ACAC history while her 1,301 points have her ranked 13th all-time.

They'll return to action on Friday, February 18 when they play host to the Concordia Thunder at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre in their final home game of the regular season.

On the volleyball court, Wilkins helped guide the Huskies' offence in a trio of weekend victories to close out the regular season side of his ACAC career. Across the three wins, Wilkins compiled 99 assists, 26 digs, three blocks, and three kills as the Huskies closed out their regular season with an 11-5 record.

"I don't know if it's because it's his last year or whatever, just the way he played this weekend was awesome," Head Coach Keegan Kuhr said. "It's what we've been looking for since he came to this program.

"It was nice to see that through all the adversity he's been through that he was able to get to that level that we expect from him."

Friday at home, Wilkins posted 29 assists, three digs, one block, and one kill in the straight-sets victory (25-15, 25-23, 25-16) against the Vikings. He was also named Player of the Game for his efforts.

Saturday on the road against the Thunder, Wilkins provided 34 assists, 13 digs, one block, and one kill in a four-set win (25-13, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16) for the Huskies. Closing out the regular season Sunday, he had 36 assists, 10 digs, one block, and one kill as the Huskies won in five sets (26-24, 26-24, 20-25, 18-25, 15-9) over the Eagles.

The performance had extra importance as Wilkins joined a select group of ACAC Men's Volleyball players who had recorded at least 1,000 assists in their career. Wilkins' final total stood at 1,044 at the close of the weekend, making him the 13th member of the list that already included teammate Nikola Sreckovic.

"One thousand assist mark, that's a super cool accomplishment. I'm super proud of his career and what he was able to do."

Having concluded their regular season, the Huskies will now prepare to face the Vikings once again, this time in the opening round of the ACAC Men's Volleyball Playoffs in March.
