During Black History Month, Keyano College Huskies Athletics will be celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments of Black student-athletes and staff who have made an impact during their time at Keyano College. Today, the program is recognizing Women's Basketball student-athlete Mzna Mohamed.

For so many of the student-athletes featured in our Black History Month series, they have years of experience with the Huskies to draw upon.
In the case of Mzna Mohamed, her story is just beginning.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba product burst onto the court with the Huskies in October 2022 with a double-double in the Huskies season-opening win against the NWP Wolves. Mohamed had a statement game in her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) debut with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and nine steals to come agonizingly close to the famed triple-double.
Finishing the regular season averaging 3.5 points per game, Mohamed also averaged 1.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, with her 30 total steals ranking fourth behind three of the team's starting core.
It's a promising start to an ACAC career for Mohamed, who has shown great effort regardless of the situation to keep her team competitive, even in their losses.
As well, while she came off the bench in 17 games this season, her 214 minutes ranked first among student-athletes who didn't start a game. As the Huskies relied upon its bench more throughout the season to balance minutes, Mohamed provided that relief while showing a strong development as a rookie.
The chapter for year one is partly complete as well with her Women's Basketball Huskies setting their sights on a strong performance at the 2023 ACAC Women's Basketball Championships this weekend in Lethbridge.
Beginning on Thursday, March 2, the Huskies will open the tournament against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at 1:00 p.m.
