During Black History Month, Keyano College Huskies Athletics will be celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments of Black student-athletes and staff who have made an impact during their time at Keyano College. Today, the program is recognizing Men's Soccer student-athlete Francis Kailondo.

Francis Kailondo spent one season with the Keyano Huskies, but made it a memorable one.

With the Huskies fresh off their first championship in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's Soccer, the Huskies went about recruiting to ensure they stayed at the top of the podium the following year.

Enter Kailondo.

In just a single season with the Men's Soccer Huskies, he tied teammate Rodrigo Wogel Koebsch for the most goals in the North Division, scoring nine times in 10 games. Three of those goals turned into game-winning goals for his Huskies side as they went 9-1-0 to capture the top spot in the North.
The Huskies then topped the Concordia Thunder in the semi-finals and SAIT Trojans in the championship final to claim their second gold medal in as many years. With that success came recognition from the ACAC, who named him to the North Division All-Conference team.

Hosting Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Soccer Nationals that season, Kailondo and the Huskies beat Douglas College and Capilano University to advance to the National Championship game. Though they'd fall to the Humber College Hawks, the program did earn the Silver Medal, the first-ever team medal at the CCAA level for the program.

While his time with the Huskies was brief, his part in a historic run for the Huskies won't soon be forgotten.
