During Black History Month, Keyano College Huskies Athletics will be celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments of Black student-athletes and staff who have made an impact during their time at Keyano College. Today, the program is recognizing Women's Basketball student-athlete Chawncy McClenan.

Among all conferences in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is arguably the most competitive to break into as a program.

When the Women's Basketball Huskies were finding their legs in the early 2010s as the newest members of the sport, Chawncy McClenan was there as a driving force for the program's early days.

In her first season, McClenan became the first student-athlete in the program's ACAC history to surpass 400 points in a single season as she scored 416. He success didn't end there as she added 174 rebounds, 52 steals, 36 blocks, and 32 assists.

While the Huskies repeated their same win total as the previous season, that moment marked a change for the program as they would never slip below that win total again to this day.

For the 2013-14 season, McClenan continued to dazzle offensively with a team-leading 294 points. She was also the only student-athlete on the Huskies to surpass 100 rebounds, totaling 128. She rounded out her impressive stat line with 41 steals, 32 blocks, and 18 assists.

Picking up her second ACAC All-Conference Team nomination, McClenan also led the Huskies to a 7-17 record, moving them out of the last spot among North Division teams for the first time as a program.

The improvement also gave the Huskies their first taste of ACAC playoff action as they competed in the ACAC Women's Basketball Championship qualifier in February 2014, losing to the SAIT Trojans.

McClenan would then round out her ACAC career with the NAIT Ooks, adding 410 points, 219 rebounds, 57 steals, 51 assists, and 36 blocks while earning an ACAC Championship and CCAA Bronze Medal with the Ooks.

Concluding her career with 1,120 points easily puts her in the top 30 of all-time ACAC Women's Basketball student-athletes. As well, her 521 career rebounds put her in the same ballpark with the same is true for her 150 career steals.

Shining on the defensive side of the game, her 104 blocks across the four seasons puts her among the all-time bests in the statistic.

Her post-secondary career may have ended long ago, but her mark is still left on the conference's record book and shows through today on the Huskies' standard for excellence.
