During Black History Month, Keyano College Huskies Athletics will be celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments of Black student-athletes and staff who have made an impact during their time at Keyano College. Today, the program is recognizing Men's Soccer student-athlete Angel Goldson.

While the Keyano Huskies Men's Soccer team experienced their success in the mid-2010s, it'd be easy to look at their overpowering offence, which seemed to score at will against their competition.

However, in their time of continued success, Angel Goldson played an integral role in keeping the Huskies' defence as strong as it was.

In his first season with the Huskies during the 2013-14 campaign, the Huskies finished 3-4-3 and out of a playoff spot.

However, the team conceded just 16 goals during that 10-game stretch, rivalling the top playoff-bound squads in the conference. As part of his defensive presence, Goldson was named to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference's (ACAC) All-Conference team.

Returning to the team's lineup in 2015-16, Goldson and the Huskies topped the ACAC North Division with a 9-0-1 record, allowing six goals during the entire regular season and earning his second nomination to the ACAC's All-Conference Team. Though not his main objective, Goldson also managed to score his first and only ACAC goal during the season as well.

Hosting ACAC Men's Soccer Championships on their home turf, Goldson and the Huskies shutout the SAIT Trojans and Lethbridge College Kodiaks to claim the program's first championship in ACAC Men's Soccer. While they'd eventually place sixth at the 2015 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Soccer National Championships, the Huskies conceded just five goals over four games, putting forth another strong defensive showing.

The 2016-17 academic year was another massive success for Goldson and the Huskies, who again topped the ACAC North Division with a 9-1-0 record. Named to the ACAC All-Conference team for the third time, the Huskies allowed just five goals over the 10 games.

With Men's Soccer Championships in Medicine Hat, the Huskies went through both the semi-finals and championship final without conceding a goal.

After their second championship success in as many years, the Huskies also had the honour of hosting the 2016 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championships.

Rising to the occasion, they beat Douglas College 3-2 in their Day 1 matchup and beat Capilano University 3-1 in the semi-finals. While they'd eventually settle for the silver medal, the Men's Soccer program gained immense respect for earning the program's second-ever CCAA medal and first team medal at the national level.

While not always showing up on the scoresheet, the past success of the Men's Soccer Huskies wouldn't be what it was without the constant presence of Goldson.
