During Black History Month, Keyano College Huskies Athletics will be celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments of Black student-athletes and staff who have made an impact during their time at Keyano College. Today, the program is recognizing Men's Soccer student-athlete Jonatton Cordoba.

Before the Keyano Huskies Men's Soccer team took a step forward on the soccer pitch in the mid 2010s, they owned the futsal pitch, winning four consecutive championships from the 2012-13 season through to the 2015-16 season.

An early part of the club's first two championships, Jonatton Cordoba was a leading force for the Huskies in those first two championship seasons.

Playing with the Huskies in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 campaigns, his season began outdoors as he collected four goals in seven games during his first season and added a single goal in nine games during his second season.

That performance in the 2012-13 campaign was notable as he finished sixth in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference's North Division scoring. With teammate Alex Eby scoring nine goals and other teammates at three and two goals, it marked the first time the Huskies had seriously challenged the rest of the North Division offensively.

With it, they finished 4-4-2, surpassed 20 goals for in a season for the first time and barely missed out on the final playoff spot in the division.

They continued that momentum into the futsal season, taking down the Lakeland Rustlers 5-1 in the Gold Medal match to deny the Rustlers a three-peat as champions of the sport.

Following the outdoor season in 2013, Cordoba and the Huskies took on the challenge of not only defending their title, but hosting both the Men's & Women's Futsal Championships at Keyano College in March 2014.

With the home crowd cheering them on, Cordoba and the Huskies once again rose to the top of the ACAC podium, beating the Rustlers 7-2 in the final to claim their second of four-straight championships.

In both seasons, Cordoba was recognized as a member of the ACAC's First All-Conference Team, showcasing his skill far and wide throughout the ACAC and on the home court.

After his time with the Huskies, Cordoba has kept in the game, winning multiple Nova Scotia Senior Men's Soccer Provincial Championships, being named the Senior Player of the Year in 2017, and helping his side of Western Halifax F.C. capture the 2017 Challenge Trophy, the national championship for men's soccer clubs competing at division 4 and below in the Canadian soccer pyramid.
