Polant, Lutterodt, and Clancey named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week

Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Volleyball student-athlete Megan Polant (Surrey, B.C.), Women's Basketball student-athlete Kayla Lutterodt (Stony Plain, Alta.) and Men's Basketball student-athlete Sean-Michael Clancey (Las Vegas, Nevada) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, November 20, 2022.

Polant played a leading role in her team capturing a straight-sets win in their lone game of the weekend at home against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens while Lutterodt and Clancey each led road sweeps for their respective sides against South Division opponents.

Megan Polant, Women's Volleyball

In Friday's 3-0 win (25-19, 25-11, 25-14) against the RDP Queens, Polant recorded eight kills, a hitting percentage of .400, nine digs, one assist, and one ace. Polant was named Player of the Game for her efforts.

"Every time we needed a kill, she was our girl," Head Coach Hayden Nichol said. "She brought it when we needed it most, wasn't making errors. She was just playing very very smart volleyball and it's going to show on the stat sheet."

In her fourth year of eligibility and studying Human Resources Management, Polant ranks third on the Huskies with 37 kills and second with six aces. In 19 career regular season games with the Huskies, she has 116 kills, 20 aces, 69 digs, and six blocks.

The Women's Volleyball Huskies are at home for their final games of the first semester this weekend as they host the NAIT Ooks at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre. Friday's match tips off at 6:00 p.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. date on Saturday afternoon. Admission for all four games, including the Men's Volleyball matches, is free for all fans.

Kayla Lutterodt, Women's Basketball

Lutterodt played a key role in two road wins for the Women's Basketball Huskies against South Division opponents.

In Friday's 67-57 win against the RDP Queens, she recorded 10 points, eight rebounds, and one block. In an 18-7 third quarter that put the Huskies clearly ahead, Lutterodt posted seven of those points for her highest-scoring quarter of the weekend.

Saturday against the Olds College of Agriculture & Technology Broncos, Lutterodt had 19 points, five rebounds, and one assist in a 66-65 win. Of those 19 points, 11 came in the fourth quarter as the Huskies fought back to regain the lead with Lutterodt hitting the game-winning three-point shot on the Huskies' final possession of the game.

"She's been playing well all year," Head Coach Dwayne Vigilance said. "She put in a lot of work over the summer and I think everyone's starting to see all the payoff that she has. I'm very proud of her."

Lutterodt currently sits third on the Huskies with 11.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Her 95 points through eight games are two points off her career-high 97 points she recorded last season in 16 games.

In her fifth year of eligibility, Lutterodt is currently studying Social Work.

The Huskies hit the road once again this weekend, challenging the NAIT Ooks in Edmonton. Tip-off for the Women's games are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Friday and 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

Sean-Michael Clancey, Men's Basketball

Across 65 minutes of action in two wins for the undefeated Keyano Huskies Men's Basketball team, Sean-Michael Clancey recorded 57 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, and 11 steals.

"Sean played incredible both nights," Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga said. "He was a factor on both ends of the floor and really set the tone for us as a leader on and off the floor this weekend."

In Friday's 105-80 victory against the RDP Kings, Clancey recorded 34 points, five rebounds, five assists, and six steals to lead his team to victory.  As part of a 30-point second quarter for the Huskies, Clancey scored 13 of those points, later adding 10 of his final total in the 25-point fourth quarter for the Huskies.

Saturday, Clancey and the Huskies rolled to a 106-57 win against the Broncos. In the game, Clancey recorded 23 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and five steals. He shot 60% (9-15) from the field, including a pair of three-point shots. He also made all three of his free throw attempts.

Clancey's biggest quarter came at the start of the game, which saw him record eight of his team's opening 23 points in the game.

Starting all eight of his team's games, Clancey currently leads the ACAC with 45 assists and 28 steals. He also ranks in the top 10 of the ACAC for points per game, total points, field goals made, three-point shots made, free throws made, and free throw percentage, and total rebounds.

Earlier this season, Clancey surpassed 1,000 points for his ACAC regular season career and has now scored 1,135 points in 46 ACAC Regular Season games, ranking 29th all-time.
