Panesa, Polant, Silva, Clancey named Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week

Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Basketball student-athlete Zera Lynn Panesa (Winnipeg, Man.), Women's Volleyball student-athlete Megan Polant (Surrey, B.C.) has been named the Keyano Huskies Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 22, 2023. As well, Men's Volleyball student-athlete Athus Silva (Campinas, Brazil) and Men's Basketball student-athlete Sean-Michael Clancey (Las Vegas, Nev. ) have been named the co-Keyano Huskies Male Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 29, 2023.   
 
The quartet contributed to a seven-win weekend for the Huskies' court sport teams against the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings with Polant and Silva leading the charge on the home court with a sweep while Panesa and Clancey powered the Huskies Basketball teams to three wins on the road.  
 
Zera Lynn Panesa, Women's Basketball
In a weekend split for the Women's Basketball Huskies, Panesa recorded 30 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals.  
 
"Zera is starting to come into her own as a point guard," Head Coach Dwayne Vigilance said. "She played very well both games; getting everyone involved and putting pressure offensively on opponents defence.  
 
"She is one of our leaders and she is leading us to a playoff run."  
 
Playing 66 of 80 minutes over the two games on the weekend, Panesa put up a team-leading 17 points in Friday's 63-48 loss. She added 13 points in Saturday's 75-63 win Saturday.  
 
Megan Polant, Women's Volleyball
Across a pair of home wins for the Women's Volleyball Huskies, Polant recorded 20 kills, eight aces, six digs, and one assist. The Huskies improved their overall record to 11-4, including a perfect 7-0 at home, where they have yet to drop a set. 
 
"She really stepped up for us [Friday] night as well in the third set when we were down and needed a little bit of a come back to win," Head Coach Hayden Nichol said. "She's been a really consistent player for us all season and is really showing her veteran status on the court."   
 
Polant also reached an impressive milestone for her career in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), picking up kill number 500 for her career.  
 
Athus Silva, Men's Volleyball
In a weekend sweep for the Men's Volleyball Huskies, Silva played a strong role on both sides of the ball. Over the two games, he had 13 kills, nine assists, seven blocks, six digs, and two aces.  
 
"Athus has be a steady force for us in the middle," Head Coach Keegan Kuhr said. "He really picked up his serving in the last few games, even adding a few digs over the weekend.  
 
"He is a true professional always ready to go when called upon."  
 
Silva is closing in on a major milestone with the Huskies as their all-time blocks leader. Silva now has 180 blocks for his Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) career. 
 
Sean-Michael Clancey, Men's Basketball
Across a pair of wins for the Men's Basketball Huskies this weekend on the road, Clancey recorded 57 points, 19 rebounds, nine assists, and seven steals.  
 
"Friday, we weren't necessarily scoring like we normally do in terms of as a unit," Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga said. "I thought it was one of those games where he took us on his back and carried us home. Saturday, he was fantastic in terms of getting other guys going.  
 
"To have five guys in high double figures like we did, I thought he did a really good job distributing. He had a great all-around weekend."  
 
Approaching the end of his legendary ACAC career, the 2021-22 ACAC North Division Player of the Year and CCAA All-Canadian has amassed 1,332 points, 442 rebounds, 214 assists, and 156 steals.
