Bullock leads charge as Women's Basketball Huskies sweep home weekend
In a pivotal weekend early in their season, the Keyano Huskies Women’s Basketball team rose to the occasion with a pair of wins against the visiting Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves.
“A win’s a win,” said Head Coach Dwayne Vigilance. “Anytime you can come away with a weekend and be proud of your effort, that’s the most important thing.

“That’s one of the things we tried to play through no matter what, just tried to play to our identity and do what we needed to do.”

The wins were by large margins as well with 38-point and 29-point margins of victory respectively.

Friday’s win was led by Ryley Bullock, who scored a season-high 35 points and added 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Saturday, she added 18 points while also contributing five rebounds, five steals, and four assists.
“[It was] kind of a breakout game for her,” Vigilance continued. “She’s been struggling a lit bit, but playing really well and I think she needed that big 35-point game to bring out some confidence in her.”
A 23-9 first quarter set the tone for Friday’s win by the Huskies, gradually building their lead through each quarter. Alexis Kemp continued her strong start to the season with 12 points. Sarah Luger and Simarpreet Giani came close to delivering double-digits off the bench, scoring nine and eight respectively.

The team also shot north of 50 percent from the field for the first time this season, going 37-for-71 (52.1%).

Saturday featured more of the same for the Huskies, who built a 20-point lead at the half en route to victory. Bullock’s 18 points led the Huskies for a second-straight night while Skylar Lalonde’s 13 and Jaylynn Twin’s 11 featured off the bench. Arian Batallones and Danika Cadieux also contributed with nine and eight points, respectively.

The focus now shifts to four critical road games, starting with games in Red Deer and Olds this coming weekend, where the Huskies will be challenged harder by some of the South Division’s best.
“[It’s] two tough teams and again two winnable games for us, but we’ve got to do things the right way,” Vigilance said. “I think we’ll prepare well this week and it’s be a stepping stone for us.”

The Huskies will begin their weekend against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens on Friday before a date with the Olds College Broncos Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm for both games.
