Keyano Huskies to Expand Community Outreach with $25,000 Donation from Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation
Fort McMurray, Alberta – Keyano College is set to enhance its Keyano Huskies Community Outreach Program thanks to a generous $25,000 donation from the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF).
Community involvement has been a pillar of the student-athlete experience at Keyano College since the Huskies began competing in 1985. Huskies student-athletes continue this tradition by donating thousands of hours throughout the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, excelling academically and athletically.
“We are thrilled to support Keyano College's efforts to engage with Wood Buffalo youth through the Keyano Huskies Community Outreach Program. This donation is a testament to our commitment to fostering positive impact and growth for kids in the region and aligns with our Every Kid Deserves a Shot Wood Buffalo initiative.” said Myrna Khan, Executive Director of the EOCF.
The funding is intended to benefit 5,000 young people between the ages of 5 and 18 in Fort McMurray, Fort McKay, Janvier, Conklin, and Anzac by providing expertise in sports and recreation programming. The project will also prioritize coaching development and educating youth about maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
“It means a lot to be awarded funding to help us enhance our outreach program and take it to new levels this year,” said Keegan Kuhr, Coordinator of Huskies Community Outreach and Head Coach of the Men’s Volleyball team.
“Keegan has done incredible work connecting our student-athletes to all corners of our region. This generous donation from the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation will allow us to continue that work and further promote physical literacy among youth in our region,” added Jonathan Lambert, Director of Athletics & Recreation at Keyano College.
The Huskies were recently recognized at the 2024 Heart of Wood Buffalo Awards from FuseSocial with the Excellence in Community Impact Award. As the Coordinator of Community Outreach, Kuhr has built strong connections through sports with surrounding communities and schools within the Wood Buffalo region.
Keyano College is grateful to our community development partners and proud of their continual support in contributing to the holistic development of our students.
