Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Soccer student-athlete Harleen Singh (Calgary, Alta.) and Men's Soccer student-athlete William Ly (Calgary, Alta.) have been recognized as the All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Both Singh and Ly found the back of the net during weekend home game action against the Concordia Thunder. Singh scored the Huskies' second goal via a beautiful free kick in a 2-2 draw Saturday. Ly struck for the game-winning goal in Saturday's 3-1 win against the Thunder and added the insurance marker in a 3-0 win Sunday.

"She scored a great goal; probably the nicest one she’s scored so far and I would argue probably one of the nicest goals that we’re going to see this whole season from any team for that matter," Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. "She always shows up; she puts the work in and she’s done well so far since joining us.

"We’re finally starting to see some of that play that she’s capable of coming out now so it’s going to be exciting to see her play in the rest of the regular season."

An ACAC transfer, Singh has found a starting role right away with the Huskies, quickly becoming a valuable part of the team's attack. While it was her first goal of the season, she had also come close on several other opportunities and contributed a pair of assists as well throughout the season. For her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) career, Singh has now scored 17 goals and 12 assists in 25 regular season games.

On the Men's side of the competition, Slotboom was impressed by Ly's progression on the pitch.

"He’s pretty consistent, he does most things really well," Slotboom said. "Every now and then he tries to do a bit too much, but I think that’s something that you take with a player like him, because often that works out exactly the way that he intends it.

"He’s starting to find the right areas of the field. He can score from range like he did on Saturday and then positionally in the perfect spot here in today’s game to put it in the empty net after a great individual effort by one of our fullbacks. Mario did really well, cut through their lines, and Will read it perfectly. Will’s becoming better and better at those situations and it’s one of those where good luck when he’s on his game to stop him."

The Huskies return to action this coming Friday when they travel to Lac La Biche, Alta. to take on the Portage College Voyageurs. The Women are scheduled to kick-off at 5:00 p.m. with the Men following at 7:00 p.m.
