Keyano College Huskies Athletics today announced Ty Savostianik (Fort McMurray, Alta.) as the first recipient of the Keyano Huskies Esports Performer of the Week.

Playing under the username "Savo", Savostianik guided the Esports Huskies to their first-ever league win in League of Legends against the University of Guam with a 2-0 result in the best-of-three.

"Ty really stepped up in a challenging position and succeeded," Head Coach Ben Bramly said. "It's nice to see our team rewarded with that first-ever victory and he was a big part of it." Across the pair of games, Savostianik recorded 18 kills, 10 assists, and died just six times. For those not familiar to League of Legends, the game requires teams of five players to attack and destroy the Nexus of their opposing teams. Players choose characters, known as Champions, to play as for the game. The game also requires players to pick one of five roles, or positions, to start out as. For Savostianik, he occupied the Midlane, one of the more challenging roles in the game due to the high exposure.

Expanding beyond the LoL realm, Savostianik also captained the Huskies' Valorant team in a loss against last year's National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) champions from Fresno State. Despite the defeat, Savostianik recorded 18 kills, 11 assists across two games with 29 combined deaths from the pair of matches.

"He is a leader in team communication and practices for both teams, making sure everyone is performing to the best of their ability," Bramly said. "Hyping up teammates when we pull off big plays is an essential part of creating good team chemistry and he fits that role perfectly."
