Keyano Huskies honour best of 2021-22 at annual Awards night

Keyano College Huskies Athletics held their annual awards night on Thursday, April 14, honouring the top accomplishments from the season that was.

Claiming the top honours of the night, Male and Female Athlete of the Year, were Men’s and Women’s Basketball standouts Sean Michael-Clancey and Moiyan Toure.

Michael-Clancey led the Men’s Basketball Huskies in minutes played, field goals made, three-point shots made, free throws made, free throw percentage, and overall points.

He also led the team in steals, overall rebounds, defensive rebounds, and was tied for the lead in offensive rebounds with Omeechi Williams.

Toure capped off her career with the Women’s Basketball Huskies in fine form, leading her side in field goals made, field goal percentage among players who took more than 10 shots, free throws made, and overall points.

Claiming the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference’s (ACAC) all-time rebounding record earlier in the season, Toure finished the season leading the Huskies in all three rebounding categories. She also led the team with 43 steals and eight blocks.

Brett Butt Memorial Award

Presented to an athlete who has overcome adversity on or off the playing field, this year’s edition of the Brett Butt Memorial Award was presented to Jacob Simmons from the Men’s Basketball Huskies.

Bridget & Zara Memorial Award

Presented to an athlete who exemplifies the best qualities of a Huskies Athlete, there was a tie in this year’s voting, leading to a pair of student-athletes being recognized.

Recognized for being kind, generous and placing others before themselves, Isabela Bustos-Chaba from the Women’s Soccer Huskies and Anderson King from the Men’s Volleyball Huskies were recognized as this year’s recipients.

Academic Athletes of the Year

As the Huskies excelled on the field of the play, they also excelled in the classroom.

The Female Academic Athlete of the Year Award was split between five recipients: Amanda Beaton (Cheer), Kayla Lutterodt (Basketball), Tyneille Neufeld (Volleyball), Kayla Wandowich (Volleyball), and Ainsley Wolstenholme (Volleyball).

The Male Academic Athlete of the Year Award was awarded to a pair of recipients in Nathan Luken (Volleyball) and Jacob Simmons (Volleyball).

Huskies Ambassador Award

Presented to a staff member or community member that best promotes the Huskies, this year’s recipient was Gerri Rondot.

Huskies Athletics also took time to recognize the Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year, and Most Valuable Player for each of their teams competing at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) level.
