It wasn't the weekend finale the Women's Volleyball Huskies were hoping for Saturday as The King's University Eagles swept them (25-17, 25-18, 25-19), squashing their hopes of finishing second in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference's (ACAC) North Division.

"We ran into a pretty good King's team this weekend when we weren't at our best," Head Coach Hayden Nichol said. "It was a similar story as Friday night; a lot of unforced errors and uncharacteristic level of play from our group. You've got to hand it to King's; there's a reason why they're a number five team in the country right now."

Tyneille Neufeld added another nine kills to her stellar season while Lauren Huntley finished one behind her with eight. Karlene Kaminski led the team with 17 digs while Rebecca Maxwell totaled 33 assists on setting duties for the Huskies.

The result closed out a 4-6 road record for the Huskies, which included trips to face the perennial top two teams in the division this season. Still 7-0 on the home court, the Huskies will have two opportunities left to secure third place in the North Division on their home court.

Locked in to a guaranteed play-in game on the February 18 weekend, they can also lock themselves into the third seed with a pair of wins, which is aided by their current playoff mindset in the final few games.

"We've been talking since the Augustana weekend that our playoffs started that weekend of Augustana," Nichol said. "It would've made it a lot easier to make sure we locked up that third spot if we would've got a win or two this weekend, but lucky for us it's still in our own hands.

"Knowing that we're hosting a play-in game no matter what, it depends who we want to play and we want to make sure we get that third spot to make sure we have the best matchup on the 18th."

The Huskies take on the 10-7 Briercrest Clippers on Friday, February 10 at 6:00 p.m. with another matchup Saturday at 6:00 p.m. against the 5-12 Medicine Hat College Rattlers. Saturday's game will serve to honour the team's graduating class of senior players.
