The Keyano Huskies Women’s Futsal team set themselves up for a strong Sunday at the final day of the 2024 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Futsal Championship.

A 5-2 win over the Lakeland Rustlers was a much more complete effort than Friday’s narrow 2-1 win against the Lethbridge Kodiaks, though both resulted in wins to give the Huskies the top spot in Pool A competition.

“I think most of the struggles we had in our first game on Friday night were not completely gone, but a lot better,” Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. “It was a good step forward, which is something that we obviously wanted to see. Pretty dominant performance.

“A couple of hiccups still, but that’s normal so it sets us up nicely for the final day of the championship.”

In their bid to try and achieve back-to-back ACAC Gold Medals, the Women’s Futsal Huskies will have another test against the Kodiaks with the winner of Sunday morning’s semi-final taking on the winner of SAIT Trojans and NAIT Ooks from the other semi-final.

To Slotboom, there were a few simple keys to victory and coming out on top.

“Starting the game right from the get-go and not letting go until the final whistle and making sure that we’re as consistent as possible and we execute what we’ve been working on the whole season so far.”

The Huskies and Kodiaks meet at 8:30am on Sunday, March 10. The winner of that game will play in the ACAC Championship game at 2:30pm while the loser will play for ACAC Bronze at 11:30am.
