The Keyano Huskies Men's Volleyball team had some bumpy moments along the way, but found enough rhythm to earn a straight-sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-18) victory against the visiting NWP Wolves Friday night at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre.

"I don't think it's one we're going to put up on the trophy case by any means, but an ugly win is a win," Head Coach Keegan Kuhr said. "I told the guys right away that this is what was coming from NWP. I think we took them a little lightly and we found ourselves battling."

Joao Cunha led the Huskies with 13 kills while Trey Weinmeier was close behind with 11. Noah Gagné made the start at setter in her ACAC debut, collecting 27 assists and seven digs.

Kaden Bennett led the Wolves in the kills department with four while a trio of others had three each.

Athus Silva, who earned Player of the Game honours for the Huskies, had seven kills, five aces, and a pair of blocks.

"Being able to put that first win in the column is important so I'm happy with that and we'll move on from there," Kuhr added.

Helping power them to Friday's win was a raucous crowd, providing a solid base for the home side Huskies to rally from when required.

"It was awesome to see lots of alum on both the women's and the men's side; lots of support from the community," Kuhr continued.

Lane Matthews earned Player of the Game honours for the visiting Wolves with 14 assists, three aces, and two digs.

The two sides return to action Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
