The Keyano Huskies Men's Volleyball team battled until the end in Saturday's road finale for the 2022-23 regular season, eventually falling in five sets (25-20, 32-34, 30-28, 21-25, 15-9) against The King's University Eagles.

"It was okay," Head Coach Keegan Kuhr said. "We won sets, but we didn't execute and we didn't have our 'volleyball IQ' going at all moments.

"It's kind of why we couldn't pull through there and win."

The five-set battle featured 25 kills from Joao Cunha, 16 from Radek Brzozowski, and 12 from Trey Weinmeier. In the setter position, Nikola Sreckovic recorded a season-high 52 assists and was one off the Huskies dig lead with eight.

Cunha and Kylar Head shared the top spot in digs for the day with nine each. Sreckovic, Cunha, and Preston Yole each recorded a pair of blocks.

While the win solidified that the Huskies won't place first in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference's (ACAC) North Division, they can still finish as high as second thanks to holding the tiebreaker against the NAIT Ooks.

Even with their playoff spot already secured as the championship hosts, Kuhr wanted to see his team drive forward in their final home weekend.

"We want to be a high a seed as we can," Kuhr said. "We're obviously not going to be first. We're just going to try and find a way to play some consistent volleyball here as we head into the home stretch."

The Huskies take on the 10-7 Briercrest Clippers on Friday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. with another matchup Saturday at 8:00 p.m. against the 2-15 Medicine Hat College Rattlers. Saturday's game will serve to honour the team's graduating class of senior players.
