The Keyano Huskies Men’s Soccer/Futsal program have added another local product to their lineup with the recruitment of Wahib El-Hayouni.
“It’s something that we’re trying to consistently grow,” Head Coach Niels Slotboom said in regards to recruiting locally. “[We’re] working together with minor soccer to hopefully in the future continue that trend and have several players come through our program each year.”
The McMurrayite winger is a graduate of École McTavish Public High School, akin to Kiera Thomas, who recently committed to the Women’s Soccer and Futsal Huskies.
“I decided to commit to Keyano, because it’s the best choice and it’s closest to me, El-Hayouni said. “I was practicing with the players here. I know my surroundings.
“I started developing more in 2021-22, started focusing more on myself and my game. Most of my development came last year.”
An added benefit of the local connection allowed El-Hayouni to train this summer with the Men’s Soccer Huskies who stayed in town, building early chemistry with his new team.
“He’s familiar with some of the players; the players and the team are familiar with him,” Slotboom said. “He’s going to have to put some hard work in because its a big step for him, but I think it’s something that he’s shown he can do.
“He’s been committed ever since he started working with us and we couldn’t ask for more than that.”
