The Keyano Huskies Men’s Futsal team are right back where they want to be; among the final four battling for conference gold for a second-straight year.

After a tricky win Friday, the Huskies looked much more coordinated in a 4-0 win against the Portage College Voyageurs that put them into the top spot in Pool A and put them automatically in Sunday’s semifinals.

“Yeah, a very strong game,” Head Coach Niels Slotboom said of Saturday’s performance. “It could’ve been a bigger score than it was, but I think the boys did really well.

“Very consistent from the beginning until the end and I’m looking forward to seeing what that looks like in the semi-final and the final.”

Exciting action in the quarter-finals, both of which went to overtime, saw the Olds College Broncos set up a rematch against the Huskies of their Friday night date. While Slotboom admired the fight in his team, he yearned for making sure that fight was there from the beginning of the match to avoid early deficits like Friday’s.

“There’s been lots of games where we’ve struggled a bit and been able to fight back and I know that that’s there in the team,” Slotboom continued. “For us there’s a big point now making sure that we don’t  have to do that. That means starting the game and making sure we start it in a way that we need to and finish it all the way until that final whistle goes.”

The Huskies and Broncos meet at 10:00am on Sunday, March 10. The winner of that game will play in the ACAC Championship game at 4:00pm while the loser will play for ACAC Bronze at 1:00pm.

The Ambrose University Lions and Medicine Hat College Rattlers will meet in the other semifinal in the Men’s competition.
