Huskies Esports rolling in Rocket League play

Huskies Esports rolling in Rocket League play

The Keyano Huskies Esports Rocket League team continued to roll this week, both literally and figuratively, beating Washington State 3-1.

With the win, they moved to 5-0 on the season in National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) Starleague play, tying them for the top of the table among their division in the Western Conference.

“There have been some pretty solid teams we've played,” said head coach Ben Bramly. “Even the team we played Tuesday, Washington State, put up a pretty good fight.

“They managed to take a game off of us. It hasn't been perfect in each individual game but we have found a way to pull off the win.”

Throughout the perfect start to their season, Bramly credited the Huskies for adapting positively to each game.

“Teams have pretty varying play styles, whether they're more aggressive or defensive,” added Bramly. “Some teams will just try to go all out and [demolition] you, try to get you out of the play which is something we like to do.”

In the best-of-five matchup, the Huskies claimed a 2-1 win to start but Washington State bounced back with a 2-1 win of their own. With the match tied, the Huskies took a 3-2 win in Game 3 and a 1-0 win in Game 4 to lay claim to the win.

The Huskies have now only conceded two individual games in their five weeks of Rocket League play, attracting attention from the NACE Sports community. As recently as last week, the Huskies earned votes in the weekly coaches poll, but remained just shy of the top 10 rankings.

Bramly knows his team is on the cusp of where they’d like to be.

“I think we're definitely in that top ten bubble right now,” said Bramly. “It's pretty hard to say because we haven't gotten the chance to play some of the other top teams so far but I think we could we could compete in that top 10 range right now.”

The sixth round of action in the league will take place next Monday where the Huskies will face Boise State, the only other undefeated team in their division.

“We still have are probably toughest match of the regular season next week,” added Bramly. “They have a pretty solid Rocket League team so it should be a good test for us against them.”
