Mestre, Williams named All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week
Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced today that Women's Futsal student-athlete Marissa Mestre (Hamilton, Ont.) and Men's Basketball student-athlete Omeechi Williams (Hamilton, Ont.) have been recognized as the All In Sports Den Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Mestre led the Women’s Futsal Huskies in scoring with six goals in their first North Regional Tournament while Williams had a season-best weekend in Grande Prairie as part of a weekend sweep for the division-leading Huskies.
Compiling a 4-1 record through their first five games, Mestre and the Futsal Huskies began their 2025 campaign in Lac La Biche. The fourth-year Nursing student notched four goals in a 4-0 win Friday and added single strikes in wins against The King’s University Eagles and Portage College Voyageurs.
Prior to the futsal season, Mestre was an integral part of the Huskies’ success in the outdoor season where she scored 15 goals to become the all-time leader in scoring for the Huskies with 33 career ACAC goals.
On the basketball court, Williams was a key part of the Huskies’ weekend sweep against the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves.
Across the two wins, Williams shot 19-for-33 from the field, scoring 53 points while also adding 20 rebounds, eight steals, and five assists. His point totals of 26 Friday in a 79-73 win and 27 in Saturday’s 87-55 win, marked consecutive season-best performances for the defending ACAC Player of the Year from 2023-24.
“We know what Omeechi is capable of,” Head Coach Jeremy Wielenga said. “I think he’s been battling injuries the whole first half of the year and I think that break at Christmas did some good and he’s just feeling healthy.
“He’s just getting back to his normal self.”
Williams’ performance from beyond the arc moved him past Huskies alumni Connor Dolson for 27th place all-time in conference history as he surpassed the milestone of 150 made three-point shots.
Williams and the Huskies host the Lakeland College Rustlers at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre this coming weekend. Friday’s game tips off at 7:00pm with Saturday’s game beginning at 2:00pm.
