The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) has honoured a trio of Keyano Huskies student-athletes for their performance on the field and in the classroom.

Soccer student-athletes William Ly (Montreal, Que.), Felicia Rodney (Calgary, Alta.), and James Bartha (Chilliwack, B.C.) were recognized as CCAA Academic All-Canadians Wednesday, complimenting a class of 73 from across the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). The honours mark the 19th, 20th, and 21st iterations of a Keyano College student-athlete being recognized as a CCAA Academic All-Canadian. It's also the first in the history of the Women's Soccer program and first for the Men's Soccer program since the 2014-15 academic year.

"This award is one of the pinnacle achievements for our student-athletes,” said Keyano College’s Director, Athletics & Recreation Jonathan Lambert. “Keyano College is proud of their commitment to succeeding academically and athletically."

The trio were recognized at the Huskies’ annual awards night with certificates of academic achievement in addition to their success on the field of play. All three were named to their respective ACAC All-Conference teams in the sports of Men’s and Women’s Soccer.

“It’s great to see kids excel in both their sport and their academics,” said Men’s and Women’s Soccer/Futsal Head Coach Niels Slotboom. “In the end, it’s what we’re here for; that’s the whole mission of what we do.

“It’s a primary focus for every body and to see three players that have competed at a very high level the whole season also do really well in the classroom. It epitomizes what we all look for.”

Ly and Bartha also played key roles in restoring the Huskies to the top of the table in ACAC Men’s Soccer as they captured the program’s fourth championship in the 2023 outdoor season. In the winter semester, Ly helped his squad repeat as ACAC Men’s Futsal Champions. The Men’s Soccer/Futsal Huskies now hold the most ACAC Championships of any active ACAC institution.

Bartha led the Men’s Soccer Huskies with eight goals and two assists in 11 games. Ly had three goals and one assist in 12 games.

Rodney concluded her legendary ACAC career with nine goals and one assist in seven games. In five seasons, Rodney potted 63 goals and currently ranks second all-time in ACAC Women’s Soccer scoring.

The CCAA Academic All-Canadian Award recognizes student-athletes who achieve an honours standing in academics combined with an elite athletic achievement.
