During Black History Month, Keyano College Huskies Athletics will be celebrating and recognizing the accomplishments of Black student-athletes and staff who have made an impact during their time at Keyano College. Today, the program is recognizing Women's Basketball student-athlete Joy Victor.

As the Keyano Huskies Women's Basketball team have sought success on the court, Joy Victor has played a part in the program's past triumphs while also helping to shape their current fortunes.

Starting her Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) career with the St. Mary's University Lightning in the 2018-19 season, Victor had a respectable rookie campaign, appearing in 18 games and averaging 4.3 points per game.

The Lightning finished sixth at the ACAC Women's Basketball Championships that year, hosted by the Huskies, with Victor making a switch to the championship hosts for the following year.

With the Huskies, Victor had a breakout season as the Huskies surged once again. Appearing in all 24 regular season games, Victor averaged 10.0 points per game, also contributing 142 rebounds, 37 steals, 30 assists, and 10 blocks.

She continued that in the playoffs, adding 31 points, 21 rebounds, six assists, four steals, and one block. Finishing on top of the ACAC North Division Women's Basketball standings for the second time in program history, the Huskies beat the Medicine Hat College Rattlers and Lightning to return to the ACAC Women's Basketball Championship game where the Huskies would take the silver.

Qualifying for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association's (CCAA) Women's Basketball Championships, Victor and the Huskies would be robbed of the chance to compete by the tournament's cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to her ACAC Silver medal, Victor drew honours from the CCAA in the classroom, where she was named a recipient of the National Scholar Award from the 2019-20 academic year. Even with the pause due to the pandemic, Victor has come through it all to play a leading role with the Huskies once again.

A product of the British Virgin Islands, that path back to the Huskies included a trip to Birmingham, England this past summer where she competed in 3x3 Women's Basketball with her country and was named flagbearer for the country at the games' closing ceremonies.

Coming back to the Huskies for the 2022-23 season, Victor hasn't missed a beat. Averaging 9.8 points per game, she's added 106 rebounds, 48 steals, 34 assists, and six blocks. She's reached double-digits in eight games this season, earning double-doubles on November 18 against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens and January 28 against the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings.

With 495 career points, 348 career rebounds, 84 assists, 102 steals, and 24 blocks, Victor continues to excel on both sides of the ball to keep the Huskies in the top-tier of conference competition.
