Keyano College Huskies Athletics announced Tuesday that women's soccer student athlete Natalie Orellana (Richmond, Calif.) and Esports student athlete Conner McGlennan (Ajax, Ont.) have been named the Keyano Huskies Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, September 26, 2021.

Orellana helped power the Huskies women’s soccer team to a 4-0 win against the Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves Sunday in their lone match of the weekend. Orellana scored in the 59th minute and then again in the 81st minute to power the Huskies in the second half of play.

"This one was really a team effort, so we had some different goal scorers and some different people stand out, but Natalie put the balls away that she had to," said head coach Niels Slotboom. "[It was] a couple really nice individual efforts."

The Business Administration student leads the Huskies with three goals this season and has also added an assist. For her ACAC career, Orellana has scored nine goals and added three assists in 14 games.

The win moves the women’s record to 2-1-0, ranking them in a tie for third in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) North Division standings. Orellana and the Huskies are back in action Sunday, October 3 as they travel to face the Portage College Voyageurs. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

McGlennan played a key role for Keyano’s Rocket League team this past week.

In NACE (National Association of Collegiate Esports) action Wednesday against Dickinson State, McGlennan scored three goals, adding four assists and three saves.

“Back in our match Wednesday night, he was a big part of the team, leading the squad in assists and saves,” said Esports head coach Ben Bramly. “He was really pivotal in setting up our team for goals as well as getting back on defence when he needed to.”

McGlennan was also a consistent presence over the team’s appearance at the CCA Friday Night Carball Tournament, where the Huskies finished 3rd/4th out of 56 teams.

As well, the Rocket League team placed fifth out of 36 teams in the TGS Collegiate Champs RL Showdown with McGlennan again playing a key role.

“Throughout the weekend, he was able to play both Friday night and Saturday, continuing to be a big part in terms of passing and keeping the communications up and keeping the team on the same page,” added Bramly.

The good placing in Friday’s Carball Tournament will aid the Huskies’ Rocket League team in Collegiate Rocket League (CRL) qualifiers, which begin this coming Sunday.
